Missing girl found safe: Emergency personnel, volunteers comb national forest for 17 hours

PRESCOTT- A 14-year-old girl who was reported missing at Lynx Lake Thursday evening, June 4, spent the night in the surrounding national forest before she was found unharmed Friday at about 1 p.m.

Kadence Swift was camping with her adoptive family, who had come to the Prescott area from Phoenix on Tuesday. She was last seen Thursday playing on some rocks along the south shore of the lake. When her mother could not find her after two hours of looking, she called the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.

YCSRT's wilderness/hiking safety outreach underway

The wonderful volunteers from the Yavapai County Search and Rescue Team, whose membership has been instrumental in the success of so many rescue operations, have embarked on a community outreach campaign. 

The focus of this educational program involves wilderness safety and the critical components necessary to survive if lost or stranded. Much of the target audience will be youth throughout Yavapai County as part of the "Hug a tree... and Survive" program which is a nationally recognized wilderness safety course.

Hiker Dies after Fall

PRELIMINARY INFORMATION - Just before 6 PM on March 11, 2015, YCSO deputies were dispatched to an incident involving an injured hiker located 5 miles up from the Bull Pen camping area along West Clear Creek, east of Camp Verde in Yavapai County. The subject has been identified as 22-year-old Rhishav Choudhury whose home country is India. Initial reports from those who knew Rhishav indicated he had wandered away by himself from a group and apparently fell an estimated 100’ from a rocky area adjacent to a trail. The group consisted of students from a college in Ohio.

Hiker lucky she wasn’t alone; YCSO often called to rescue

While a group of local young adults made several crucial errors during their trek into the Granite Dells Feb. 15, they did do at least one major thing right: they didn't go alone. If the 16-year-old girl who was saved by her friends would have been alone, she would have been in a world of hurt when she collapsed apparently because of dehydration.

Man Rescued following Ground and Air Effort while Uninvolved Person hinders the work of Rescuers

On February 15, 2015, just after 1 PM, YCSO deputies were called out to the Thunder Mountain Trail on Capitol Butte in Sedona regarding a 66-year-old man from Idaho who was stuck on a ledge. The man had hiked to the top of Capitol Butte and upon descent he took the wrong trail which led him to an area where he could no longer descend, in part, because of a prior shoulder injury. The man was calm during his contact with deputies and remained stationary as requested.

Phoenix family rescued after truck stuck in ditch

A Phoenix family that drove to an area off Bloody Basin Road and became stuck on New Year's Day was rescued, due in part to some smart decisions, a Yavapai County Sheriff's spokesman said.

The family left Cave Creek and, at about 6:30 p.m., called the Sheriff's Office to report that their truck, with a man, woman and two children inside, had become stranded after getting stuck in a ditch, YCSO spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said.

Remains of Missing Person Thomas Lang Believed to be Recovered

Flagstaff, AZ: Searchers believe they have located the skeletal remains of 22 year old Thomas Lang who was originally reported as an overdue hiker on December 18, 2013. His parents have spent many weekends since the formal search was suspended, hiking areas where they believe their son might be located. On Saturday, November 29, 2014 Thomas’s parents were searching for their son in the Secret Canyon area located within Yavapai County.

Missing Prescott Valley Woman Found

Thanks to the assistance of the the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team and an alert StoneRidge resident, the Prescott Valley Police Department is pleased to report that Betty J. Salters, the missing 81 year old female from StoneRidge was located at approximately 7:30 this morning. Search teams had worked through the night in attempts to locate Mrs. Salters who wandered away from her home early last night.
