Unprepared Hiker Airlifted to Safety

The original call occurred April 24, 2017, just before 2 PM. The comments above are a synopsis from call notes by Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office dispatchers logged during a phone call from a 26-year-old female requesting help. A Sheriff’s Forest Patrol Deputy began coordinating the rescue. After some time passed due to attempts to gather accurate cell phone GPS coordinates, it was determined the stranded hiker was located on high ground in a remote area north/west of Devil’s Bridge, Sedona.

Swift Water Team to the Rescue

 On March 11, 2017, at approximately 1:30PM, YCSO deputies were dispatched to a section of the Verde River near Highway 260 at the end of Beaver Drive, Camp Verde, regarding a stranded kayaker. The reporting party indicated the kayaker, a 36-year-old woman from Glendale, was stuck on a rock in the middle of the river as her kayak filled with water. She reportedly could not feel her legs. Although wearing a vest, she wisely remained stationary awaiting rescue personnel while people on shore maintained visual contact and updated the YCSO dispatch center.

One person dead after attempting creek crossing

RIMROCK – The man who lost his life Tuesday morning while attempting to drive through a flooded road along Beaver Creek has been identified as Robert Kind, 59, from Cottonwood.

The incident remains under review, said Dwight D’Evelyn, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office media relations coordinator, and further details will be released when available.

Prescott Fire and members of the Yavapai County Back Country Search and Rescue team bring an injured hiker out via the Flume Trail north of Watson Lake Saturday, February 25. The victim was transported via Lifeline Ambulance to Yavapai Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

UPDATE: Missing Prescott Valley man found safe

UPDATE: A man with dementia, who was reported as missing and endangered, is safe after an extensive search in Prescott Valley.

David Paiva, 66, was found Saturday afternoon on Antelope Meadows Drive.

Police answered a call of a man appearing confused and were able to identify him as the subject of the search and rescue operation ongoing since earlier in the morning.

Paiva appeared to be disoriented and in need of medical attention, according to a Prescott Valley Police announcement.

Kayaker rescued from Verde River

NEAR CAMP VERDE – A novice kayaker, thrown from her boat, was rescued from the Verde River Sunday, Sept. 25, thanks to a family member who called for help when she didn’t show up at her pick-up point.

The kayaker, a 46-year-old woman, had little experience and didn’t know the river well, Yavapai County Sheriff’s spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn said.

She planned to put it upstream of the West Clear Creek intersection and would travel to Beasley Flats, where family members would pick her up.

Missing 70 Year-Old Linda Schleizer Found Deceased

The search for a missing Ash Fork woman with Alzheimer's disease came to a tragic end over the weekend.

Searchers with Yavapai County Sheriff's Search and Rescue were conducting a follow-up search for Linda Schleizer, 70, when they found her body in the Juniperwood Ranch area west of Ash Fork at about 9 a.m. Saturday. Her remains were located approximately 0.75 miles east of the residence under a juniper tree in a shallow wash area.
