Prior media release follows – The Yavapai County Medical Examiner has confirmed the remains found on January 1, 2021, near McGuireville are that of 31-year-old Shane Rollman. Shane was reported missing to the West Covina Police Department in California, last seen September 12, 2020. Shane’s abandoned vehicle was found by DPS Troopers on September 23, 2020, at the McGuireville rest stop off I 17. Shane could not be located following a search by Troopers and subsequent extensive search effort by YCSO Forest Patrol Deputies and search volunteers.

2 Search and Rescues provide understanding that Hiking alone always increases Risk – A Cell phone was a lifeline in both cases

On July 18,  2020,  around  10:45  PM,  YCSO  was  contacted  about  a  missing  16-year-old  autistic male  who had  separated  from  his  hiking  companion and had not  been seen since 7:30 PM.  The missing  teen was  expected to return to  a  trail  head  in the  Groom  Creek  area,  but  never  showed. Deputies  learned the teen had a phone, some  water,  food,  and was  wearing a head lamp.  Initial attempts  to  reach  him  by  phone were unsuccessful.

Graffiti ‘Artist’ rescued After Fall from Storm Drain

On April 4, 2020, around 3:30 PM, YCSO dispatchers received a call from a 26-year-old Prescott man who indicated he had fallen from a ‘tunnel’ resulting in a broken leg and upper body cuts and bruises. The location was off Highway 89 just outside of Prescott as your heading towards Wilhoit. While deputies and EMS crews were responding, the injured subject was kept on the line with dispatchers so they could monitor his consciousness and level of pain. Personnel started arriving around 20 minutes after the initial call, utilizing GPS coordinates from the cell phone call for direction.

Yavapai County Search and Rescue Involved in Two Rescues

On March 11, 2020 at approximately 4:00 PM, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a call regarding stranded motorists on Forest Service Road 413, on Mingus Mountain in the Prescott National Forest.  The stranded subjects were traveling back from Jerome to Camp Verde where they were staying.  They consulted their GPS for the shortest route and were directed onto Forest Road 413 on Mingus Mountain.

Another Successful Search and Rescue thanks to our Dedicated Volunteers

On January 27, 2020, just before 9 PM, the Sheriff’s Office received a call from a 37-year-old Black Canyon City woman who reported that she was hiking alone and lost. She was in a remote area outside of Black Canyon City, near a river. The woman had no food, water, or supplies including a light to navigate the darkness. Based on her 911 call, dispatchers were able to obtain GPS coordinates. 

A YCSO Forest Patrol deputy called out the Backcountry Unit from the Yavapai County Search and Rescue Team.

Search for missing Phoenix man in Castle Hot Springs scaled back

Ground, air search discontinued; detectives looking for further leads

After 10 days of combing the Castle Hot Springs area, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) decided to discontinue the search for a missing Phoenix man on Thursday, Jan. 9.

Corey Bailey, 31, disappeared on Dec. 29 while four-wheeling with friends. His disappearance was reported to police on Dec. 31, kicking off an extensive search and rescue effort.

On December 27, 2019, around 9:15 AM, deputies were dispatched to the Juniper Woods community south of Ash Fork regarding a missing 57-year-old man. The caller indicated his roommate had been missing since the previous afternoon, but had failed to call until now. The missing man walked away from a trailer on their property and could not be found. 

A YCSO Forest Patrol deputy called out members of the Yavapai County Search and Rescue Team’s (YCSRT) 4x4 and Back Country units.

Aircraft Crash

Just before 9AM yesterday, December 13, 2019, a rancher called YCSO to report finding remnants of a plane crash on remote ranchland off of Flower Pot Road, east of 117, Yavapai County. This area is southeast of the I 17 and Highway 169. According to the rancher, the crash appeared a 'couple days old.' A body was also located at the crash site. Deputies arrived, confirmed the findings and called out rescue teams to search the area. No additional bodies were located. The aircraft is a fixed wing single engine type.

Update: Missing Prescott man found alive on Peavine Trail

A Prescott man who was reported missing Wednesday, Sept. 18, was found at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, police said.

Paul Richards, 67, was located on Tree House Loop on the Peavine Trail in Prescott, according to a Prescott Police Department news release.

Though in need of medical attention, Richards was alert and talking when first responders made contact with him, PPD reported.

“He had been in that location for two days and two nights, with little to no provisions,” Prescott PD spokesperson Jon Brambila said in a statement.
